HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Shutdown
Inside each of these keys you'll see a subfolder called "1" and within that you'll see a key named "Dll" holding a string value of "OemAnimationDll.dll". Simply change that string to anything else, and upon reboot you won't see the AT&T animations any longer.
Note: disabling the shutdown animation makes it a little difficult to determine when you're powering down the phone
Note: if all you want to do is disable the whooshing sound effects, you can modify a few sound files on the phone. They're located in the \Windows\ folder called "start.wav" and "stop.wav".
You can't delete them, but you can overwrite them with a blank file or some other .wav file.

i figured out why i couldnt see the windows folder, but i created a new .wav file and i can not copy this file into the windows folder......it will not let me overwrite
any ideas? I DL a application unlock and its working fine, but still cant overwrite these wav files
I have looked all over HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and i have Cnrl 'f'ed for the sound files or folders holding them and i can not find anything. Any chance you could post where the exactly location of them is. in my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE there is no \Windows\ folder only windows CE and that contains IE junk, i cant stand those wooshing noises. Please help.
In Windows on your PC, if you open "My Computer" you'll see a list of your hard drives, etc., and you should also see a "windows mobile device" (actual wording will vary whether you use XP or Vista). If you right-click on that icon, you should see an option to 'explore' the mobile device. Choose the 'explore' option, and you should see more folders on your BJ2, including the "Windows" folder.
On your PC, in some other folder, create a new Notepad text document, but don't type anything, simply save the empty document as "start.wav" somewhere on your PC, then re-save the document as "stop.wav".
Once those empty files are made, drag them over the Explorer window where you've opened the "Windows" folder on your BJ2. It should prompt you to make sure you really want to overwrite the start.wav/stop.wav files. (Note, you can also save your blank document as ShutterSound.wav to get rid of the annoying shutter click when taking pictures).
If you still need help, I can write out exact instructions for Windows XP tonight when I get home from work.
i did this as you stated

I run Vista on my pc....i do not have the WINDOWS folder....weird.....any thoughts?
That worked perfectly. I wonder why i couldn't find them in the reg-editor. Thank you for the help! Silence is golden haha
The startup/shutdown sounds aren't in the registry, that I've found ... so they must be referenced from within the DLL files.
Glad it worked for you too, those jet woosh sounds were driving me nutty.
